Speakers
Sherry | NUS Medicine — Synthetic Biology
Sherry received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Zhejiang University and is currently a first-year PhD student at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Her undergraduate research focused on immunology, while her current PhD work marks a transition into synthetic biology. In this session, Sherry will share her experience navigating this shift in research direction, as well as her reflections on choosing programs, preparing applications, and making decisions during the PhD application cycle.
Jesse | NUS Department of Microbiology and Immunology — Virology
Jesse received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Zhejiang University–University of Edinburgh Institute. His research interests have consistently focused on virology.
Beginning in the summer of his sophomore year, Jesse worked in the same laboratory on coronavirus-related research projects, which shaped his decision to focus his PhD applications on virology-related programs. He received support through China’s national scholarship program for overseas study and joined NUS as a direct-entry PhD student in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, where his current research focuses on influenza virus.
Jesse will share his experience building a focused research profile and applying to PhD programs closely aligned with his long-term scientific interests.
