About this conversation

Single-cell transcriptomics charts neural cell populations across embryonic macaque cortical development and enables cross-species comparison with humans and mice.

We thank Dr. Longjiang Xu for sharing the research, the thinking behind the discovery, and the challenges and decisions that shaped the work with the Biolà community.

On July 28, 2023, at 9:00 AM Beijing Time, Biola hosted the inaugural issue of the Bioneer First-Author Forum, featuring Dr. Longjiang Xu from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College. Dr. Xu presented his work, “Temporal Transcriptomic Dynamics in Developing Macaque Neocortex,” published in eLife.

Using single-cell transcriptomic sequencing, the study characterized the temporal transcriptional dynamics of multiple neural cell populations during embryonic neocortical development in rhesus macaques. By integrating single-cell datasets from developing human and mouse neocortex, the work further enabled cross-species comparisons of cortical development and provided a valuable resource for understanding conserved and species-specific developmental programs in the mammalian neocortex.

We sincerely thank Dr. Longjiang Xu for sharing his research and the story behind the study with the Biola community, and for contributing to the very first Bioneer First-Author Forum.
