What is Biolog

Biolog是主要面对Biolà社群内部的4-6人的小型交流会，其目的是以闲聊的方式来让大家接触具有相似兴趣的同伴，在轻松的氛围中交流学术、彼此促进。目前，已经有四次Biolog闲聊会成功举办，和大家见面了。

在这里，我们将和大家一起回顾这四次活动的过程与内容，也希望更多的朋友能够参与到Biolog中来，和大家一起分享你所感兴趣的话题，讲述你科研路上的点点滴滴。

不知道你是否曾觉得，

在学术的道路上略显孤独？

你可曾在日常和朋友抱怨课题进展的时候，

感怀听者寥寥，回应也差强人意？

你是否有在面对工作中出现的无缘由bug后，

翻遍网页论坛却找不到几句能用解释与建议？

如果你对以上问题点了头，那么你或许不是一个人。科研的路，往往是在荆棘丛中独自前渡。也正是出于这个原因，我们才有了组织Biolog的初心——我们希望让通往学术彼岸的道路不再孤单，希望科研者不再被行业差异冰封了分享欲。

抱着这一想法，我们在今年4月6日第一次通过Biolog和大家见面，并在之后的两个多月里以2至3周一次的频率维持着这一活动。由于Biolà的核心社群是神经科学社群（Biolà - neuro$cientist），因此我们在讨论后，决定在最初的几次Biolog分享会上选择神经科学范畴内的主题，而在形式成型、参与者较多后，再慢慢拓展到其他领域。

第1期Biolog活动：Neurodegenerative Disease

如今，我们已经组织了主题为Neurodegenerative Disease (第1期)、Neurotechnology (第2期)、Neuron-Immune Interaction (第3期)和Computational Medicine (第4期) 的四次活动，涵盖了neuroscience、biomedical technology、immunology、computational biology等多个领域。未来，我们将覆盖目前Biolà社群的所有子方向，并且邀请有相关领域背景的老师同学来进行主持，大步、稳步地向前迈进。

第4期Biolog活动：Advances in Computational Medicine

在研究领域外，参与我们活动的成员也背景多样。从职业发展阶段来说，既有本科生、研究生、博士生，也有博后、PI和其他科研界和工业界从业人员。从目前所在地区来说，既有北美和中国，也有新加坡、英国、欧陆等。多样化的背景，为Biolog的分享添加了更多的不同，使得各个阶段各类背景的参与者都能有所收获、有所体悟

What Is Biolog?

Biolog is a small-group discussion series designed primarily for members of the Biolà community. Each session typically brings together 4–6 participants with shared or overlapping interests for informal conversations about science, research, and academic life.

Rather than following the format of a traditional seminar, Biolog is meant to feel more like a conversation among peers: a space where participants can exchange ideas, talk openly about their research experiences, and connect with others who understand the challenges and excitement of scientific work.

So far, we have successfully hosted four Biolog sessions. Here, we look back on these first four gatherings and invite more members of the community to join future conversations, share topics they care about, and tell the stories behind their own research journeys.

Have you ever felt a little alone on the path of research?

Have you tried to talk about a frustrating experiment with friends, only to realize that few people around you could fully relate?

Have you spent hours searching through papers, forums, and documentation after encountering an inexplicable bug, yet still struggled to find a useful answer?

If any of these experiences sound familiar, you are probably not alone.

Research can often feel highly specialized and isolating. Differences between disciplines, methods, institutions, and career stages can easily become barriers to conversation. Biolog was created with a simple hope: to make the journey through research feel a little less solitary, and to create a space where disciplinary boundaries do not prevent people from sharing their curiosity, frustrations, ideas, and experiences.

How Biolog Began

Our first Biolog session took place on April 6, and over the following two months, we continued organizing sessions approximately every two to three weeks.

Because Biolà initially grew around its neuroscience community, Biolà – neuro$cientist, we began with topics related to neuroscience. As the format developed and participation expanded, we gradually broadened the scope to include other areas across the life sciences.

Sessions 01–04

The first four Biolog sessions explored:

• Session 01 — Neurodegenerative Disease
• Session 02 — Neurotechnology
• Session 03 — Neuron–Immune Interaction
• Session 04 — Advances in Computational Medicine

Together, these sessions have touched on neuroscience, biomedical technology, immunology, computational biology, and related interdisciplinary areas.

As Biolog continues to grow, we hope to expand into all of the research areas represented within the broader Biolà community and invite students, researchers, and professionals with relevant expertise to help facilitate future discussions.

A Community Across Career Stages and Borders

The diversity of Biolog extends beyond research topics.

Participants have included undergraduate students, graduate students, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, principal investigators, and professionals in both academia and industry. They have also joined from different parts of the world, including China, North America, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe.

These different perspectives are an important part of what makes Biolog meaningful. Participants at different stages of their careers often approach the same scientific question in very different ways, allowing everyone to leave the conversation with something new to think about.

No Formal Presentation Required

Biolog is intentionally flexible.

We want participants to feel comfortable sharing their work and ideas without turning the session into another formal seminar. There is no requirement for polished slides or impressive results.

You might bring:

• a few presentation slides;
• a hand-drawn flowchart;
• a poster you recently presented;
• an interesting figure or paper;
• or simply turn on your microphone and camera and talk about something you have been thinking about.

Some participants may have years of research experience and extensive accomplishments, while others may be taking their first steps into a field. Both are equally welcome.

At Biolog, we care less about how advanced your research is than about your willingness to share your questions, experiences, and perspectives with others.

What’s Next?

Biolog will continue as a recurring event within the Biolà community.

We also welcome your ideas and feedback—whether about the format of the sessions, future discussion topics, or simply how a particular Biolog conversation made you feel.

Most importantly, we invite you to bring whatever you are curious about, excited about, or struggling with, and share it with the community.

第4期Biolog活动：Advances in Computational Medicine

在形式上，Biolog也同样多元。作为闲聊会，我们既不想限制大家畅所欲言、展现自我的机会，也绝不希望以冷冰冰的门槛去扭曲了“轻松学术”的初心。无论是两三页PPT、一张手写的flow-chart、最近刚刚使用过的poster，抑或只是简单地打开话筒与摄像头，随意讲讲自己的心得，这都是我们所愿意看到的。的确有参与者从业较久、成果卓越、让人惊叹，但这并非是Biolog的要求；比起学术的高度，在Biolog里，我们更看重的是你愿意来分享感悟和体会的温度。

第4期Biolog活动会议说明

我们在未来，还会办很多很多次的Biolog：它会逐渐变成Biolà社群的一个周期性活动。同时，我们也期待你给予我们建议和评价，这既可以是对于Biolog的组织形式和组织内容，也可以是对于某一次活动后你自身的感受与心情。我们欢迎你来和我们分享任意你想分享的内容，也期待你在未来继续参与我们的Biolog活动。
