Decision-Making

Biolog is a small-group discussion series designed primarily for members of the Biolà community. Each session typically brings together 4–6 participants with shared or overlapping interests for informal conversations about science, research, and academic life.

The goal is to create a relaxed and open space where participants can meet others with similar interests, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

Session 06 | Decision-Making

Every day, we make countless decisions through complex neural processes that integrate sensory information, internal states, past experiences, and expected outcomes to guide behavior.

Research on decision-making spans multiple levels of neuroscience, from the activity of individual neurons to interactions across large-scale brain networks. Brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex, basal ganglia, and parietal cortex have been implicated in different aspects of decision-making, while approaches including electrophysiology, neuroimaging, behavioral analysis, and computational modeling continue to reveal how choices are represented and transformed into actions.

Decision-making therefore provides a rich framework for understanding how the brain integrates information, evaluates alternatives, and adapts behavior in changing environments.

About the Session

To explore recent advances and emerging questions in the neuroscience of decision-making, Biolà will host Biolog Session 06: Decision-Making.

We are inviting 4–6 participants to give short presentations of no more than 10 minutes each.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• Recent advances and emerging questions in decision-making research
• Neural circuits and brain regions involved in decision-making
• Computational and theoretical perspectives on choice behavior
• Introductions to key concepts, methods, or experimental paradigms
• Personal perspectives on the field
• Your own research related to decision-making
• Interesting papers, figures, or ideas you would like to discuss

Formal presentations are not required. A few slides, a figure, a paper, a hand-drawn diagram, or simply a topic you would like to discuss are all welcome.

If more than six participants sign up to present, we may organize two separate sessions to maintain a comfortable and interactive discussion format.

How to Participate

Biolà welcomes participants at different stages of training and from different research backgrounds.
